ABOUT DR. WU

ABOUT DR. WU

Isabella Wu, MD, MPH is a fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in Sports Medicine.

Dr. Wu graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California (USC), which she attended on an academic scholarship that covered half of tuition. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degrees in an accelerated 4-year program at Tulane University. During medical school, she did an additional year of research in Sports Medicine at the Mayo Clinic (named the #1 hospital in the world).

Fulfilling a decade-long dream, she matched into her top choice for orthopedic surgery residency at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). She was voted Administrative Chief Resident, and completed her training with a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University and Rothman Orthopedic Institute (recognized as the #1 orthopedic private practice in the country).

As a fellow, she was an assistant team physician for the Philadelphia Phillies (MLB), Villanova University (D1), Saint Joseph University (D1), Drexel University (D1), and Eastern University (D3), in addition to providing care for high school athletes and the Philadelphia Marathon.

Dr. Wu has published over 30 peer-reviewed research articles, edited 3 medical textbooks, and presented at national meetings such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). She was awarded scholarships from the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS) to further advance her skills and expertise.

She currently takes care of patients and athletes of all levels in the San Diego, La Jolla, Chula Vista, and La Mesa communities. Her philosophy emphasizes listening to her patients and customizing a treatment plan to help them meet their goals. She has clinical expertise in arthroscopy (minimally invasive joint surgery), ACL reconstruction, shoulder replacements, hip labral repair, and more.
